I love to wander around the streets of Helsinki with my camera. The buildings are so colorful and full of details. Today I decided to share my favorites with you – cause sometimes the best places might be a bit hard to find 🙂
So here is my list of the 10 prettiest streets (or the most instagrammable ones, if you wish) in Helsinki.
1. Huvilakatu, Ullanlinna
I have to start with Huvilakatu. I mean, it has been voted as the prettiest street in Helsinki, making it an obvious choice for this list. Also a legendary Finnish tv show “Salatut Elämät” has been filmed there 😀 How to get there: It is a 2 km walk from the Central Railway Station, but you can also take the tram 3 and get off at Eiran Sairaala.
2. Vironkatu, Kruununhaka
Just a short walk away from the Senate Square you can find Vironkatu, a colorful and (I would say) a very traditional representative of Helsinki.
3. Kulmakatu, Kruununhaka
This tiny street translates into Corner street. I love the color combination of green, purple and yellow. How to get there: It is only 1 km walk away from the Senate Square.
4. Hallituskatu, Centre
Right next to Senate Square you can find Hallituskatu. It is one of my favorites because of the beautiful view to the Cathedral. I also love the details on that gorgeous pink building!
5. Katajanokankatu, Katajanokka
This street just has a charm of its own as it is usually very quiet and peaceful (besides some old couples on their little strolls). How to get there: Tram 4 goes to Katajanokka.
6. Helenankatu, Centre
This tiny street is also right next to the Senate Square. On Helenankatu you can find the best restaurant in Helsinki, Olo.
7. Katariinankatu, Centre
At the end of the road you can almost see the Senate Square and the Cathedral, where as on the other side you will end up to the Market Square. This street has some nice designer shops as well as the Helsinki City Museum.
8. Pohjoisranta, Kruununhaka
This blue building in the pic is one of my favorites. You can spot some Embassies when walking here (Greece and Tunisia). How to get there: I recommend a walk from the Senate Square through Kruununhaka to get an idea of the beautiful area.
9. Luotsikatu, Katajanokka
Luotsikatu crosses with Katajanokankatu and they are actually very similar. Remember to check them both when you are in the Katajanokka area. How to get there: Tram 4 goes to Katajanokka.
10. Eira Area
Too hard to choose just one street, so please just walk around in the area and take your time. How to get there: Take tram 3 and get off at Eiran Sairaala.
+ Wild Card: Tarkk’ampujankatu, Ullanlinna
This van is most of the time parked here and that is what makes this street special 😉 How to get there: Take the tram 3 or 10.
Have you been to any of these streets? What would you add to this list?
